Gas

Each of the gas tariffs are set for low, medium and high energy users and provide a range of features to help you pick the one that is right for you.

  • Standard tariff - This is the most popular tariff and is therefore appropriate for the majority of British Gas customers. That doesn't mean it is the cheapest, the greenest or the one that gives you most control though. How you feel about these factors will also influence your decision. A Low energy user can expect to receive an average annual bill of £405. A medium (average) energy user can expect a bill for £720, and a high energy user on average would see an annual bill of £944. The tariff provides the following features:
  • Discounts of up to £35 for Gas customers paying by Direct Debit. They receive a discount off their Tier 2 consumption charges of 0.196 p/kWh, up to a maximum of £16.25 (inc VAT) per quarter (or £5.42 per month for monthly billing customers). Based on average annual consumption of 20,500 kWh as at 9th April 2010, this is rounded and includes VAT at 5%. The discount received varies according to seasonal consumption.
  • Pay for your bills monthly by direct debit or debit/ credit card
  • Submit meter readings monthly and manage your account online
  • FREE electricity monitor
  • It is also available with EnergySmart (see below)

  • OnlineSaver2 - This is a special tariff only for online customers. It gives you guaranteed online savings and provides average annual gas bills of £388 for low energy users. Medium (average) energy users can expect to see an average annual gas bill of around £690, and high energy users will see their annual average gas bill come in around £905. Whether British Gas prices go up, down or stay the same, you will receive a minimum 4% discount against the Standard tariff rates. It provides the following features:
  • Guaranteed minimum discount of 4% per fuel against the Standard tariff until 1st October 2011
  • Additional savings of up to £150* with EnergySmart (see below)
  • Free Electricity monitor
  • Online Account management and Paperless billing are mandatory.

  • WebSaver 8 - This is the cheapest online tariff available from British Gas and increasingly the one that most of our online customers apply for. WebSaver 8 customers receive a minimum 6% discount against the Standard tariff rates until 1st July 2011. On average a low energy user will receive an annual gas bill of £350, a medium (average) energy user will see this rise to around £602 and high energy users can expect to see an annual average bill of around £782. WebSaver 8 has limited availability and so prompt application is advisable. It provides the following features:

  • Monthly fixed direct debit payment is required

Electricity

As with gas prices, British Gas electricity prices are set for low, medium and high energy usage, and provide a range of features to help you pick the one that is right for you. They also double up with a corresponding gas tariff to provide additional Dual Fuel savings (see Dual Fuel below). Electricity tariffs are explained below:

  • Standard Tariff - This gives all the features and advantages of the corresponding gas standard tariff (details above) and gives discounts of up to £38 on electricity. That translates to low energy users expecting to receive an average annual electricity bill for £225, medium (average) energy users receiving annual average bills of around £377, and high energy users seeing annual average bills of £553 Apply for Standard tariff electricity
  • OnlineSaver 2 Tariff - Has all the features, benefits and requirements of the corresponding gas OnlineSaver 2 tariff, and produces an average bill for British Gas customers of £215 a year for low usage, £360 a year for medium (average) usage, and £529 a year for high energy users.   • Future Energy Tariff - Sustainable electricity production is becoming increasingly important for many customers. Choices for energy supply are affected not simply by cost but also involve criteria such as sustainability and impact upon the world in which we live. If you are one of the cultural creatives who actively make decisions based on the environmental impact of buying choices then the Future Energy tariff is one to consider. It provides average annual electricity bills of £248 for Low energy usage, £413 for medium (average) energy usage and £602 for High energy users. This tariff provides the following features and benefits:
  • 100% of the electricity you use will be matched with energy from renewable sources such as wind and water
  • Help to reduce the CO2 emissions of schools in the UK with contributions to the Energy For Tomorrow fund

  • WebSaver 8 Tariff - This is the cheapest electricity tariff from British Gas and provides all the features, benefits and requirements of the corresponding gas WebSaver 8 tariff, It produces an average annual bill for British Gas customers of £194 for low energy, £312 for medium (average) energy usage and £454 for high energy users. It is only available online and has limited availability so we recommend that you apply promptly for WebSaver 8 tariff electricity

Dual fuel

Dual fuel combines the savings on gas and electricity to give you even more savings. The features advantages and requirements are as explained in the sections above. To help you we have included average bill estimates for each dual fuel tariff below. Make sure you also make a note of the Zero Carbon Dual Fuel option which is the newest and greenest dual fuel option from British Gas

  • Future Energy Plus Dual Fuel Tariff - Provides the greenest fuel that is 100% carbon neutral for every little bit of gas or electricity you use. Everything is matched by energy from renewable and sustainable sources such as wind and water power. This means that 100% of your carbon emissions are offset against renewable sources. You can be safe in the knowledge that as you sit in your home you are helping to reduce the effects of CO2 emissions in the world and are contributing to the Energy for Tomorrow fund which seeks to reduce the CO2 emissions of schools in the UK. You will also be helping British Gas to invest in new renewable energy generation in the UK. It is sustainable and responsible and only available from British Gas.
  • Future Energy Plus Dual Fuel Provides average combined annual bills of £673 for low energy users, £1172 for medium (average) energy users & £1607 for high energy users.   • Standard Dual Fuel Tariff - Provides average combined annual bills of £624 for low energy users, £1082 for medium (average) energy users & £1482 for high energy users. Apply for standard dual fuel tariff online.
